Six more witnesses for the defense took the stand Thursday in the capital murder trial of Jerry Duane Martin, bringing the jury another day closer to the conclusion of testimony in the case. Martin is on trial for his escape from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Wynne Unit on Sept. 24, 2007, which resulted in the death of TDCJ officer Susan Canfield. Fellow inmate John Ray Falk also escaped from the unit, exchanging gunfire with Canfield on the site of the adjacent Huntsville City Service Cent

Charges are pending after a late-night accident on Route 29 north. It happened just before 10:00 p.m. at the Boulder's Road intersection near NGIC. Police say a Lexus was headed northbound when it veered into the left lane and hit a minivan, and then crashed into a Mitsubishi before running into a tractor trailer.

State testimony in the capital murder trail of Jerry Duane Martin began to wrap up Monday, with the jury hearing testimony from seven witnesses, including a medical examiner, two Huntsville Police Department officers and others. Dr. Tracy Dyer, medical examiner for the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office, was first to take the stand — testifying to the injuries incurred when, during his escape, Martin drove a stolen City of Huntsville vehicle into TDCJ Officer Susan Canfield, leading to her death.
